Not even Interior had updated their systems against the WannaCrypt

The central services of the department order today to turn off the computers to apply the patch that was available since March

Not even the central services of the Ministry of the Interior had applied the security protocols recommended by Microsoft last March to deal with the WannaCrypt virus. The technicians of the department directed by Juan Ignacio Zoido have begun this morning to place on the computers of the headquarters of the Interior the patch that prevents infection by the ransomware that hijacks the data and asks for a ransom to decrypt the files. Fortunately, according to sources of State security, the virus did not attack the computers of the ministry or other connected departments, such as the Police, the Civil Guard or the issuance of the DNI.

The General Subdirectorate of Information Technology and Communication (Sgtic) of the Ministry of the Interior has sent the following notice to all the officials of the department's central services in the early morning: by installing a security patch, please turn off all the computers and do not turn them on until further notice.

According to Interior sources admit, the technicians were not mobilized last Friday when the massive contagion began and neither during the weekend nor Monday, a festive occasion in the Community of Madrid. This explains why Interior took four days to update its systems to shield itself from WannaCrypt.

Other ministries, such as the Ministry of Finance, have also ordered the shutdown of computers in a preventive manner to apply the patch. According to technical experts from the Central Administration, numerous departments had ignored Microsoft's recommendations, because the application of the patch could cause problems in other obsolete programs, which nevertheless remain in common use in the ministries.

In fact, the application of the patch is causing problems in the computers of the Ministry of the Interior that have started to light early in the afternoon today.

On the other hand, the parliamentary group of Citizens has asked today to appear in the Congress the general director of the National Intelligence Center, Félix Sanz Roldán, and the general director of the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE), Alberto Hérnández, for the computer attack called "WannaCry".
